Every creative process includes moments when the work falls short of the vision. The drawing may feel wrong. The design may need to be reconsidered. Frustration can make an unfinished attempt feel like evidence that we are not capable—but it is only evidence that the work is not finished.
The first image in this architectural story shows a modern house rendering angrily crossed out beside the words, "You stink!" It represents the voice of self-criticism that can appear when our work does not immediately meet our expectations.
The second image shows the architect returning to the drafting table and continuing to revise the design.
